About the speaker:

Colleen Ferrary is an experience leadership coach. In 23 years in corporate America, she rose to a Director level position in a Fortune 500 company. Her responsibility included a $900M market/responsibility and as many as 5,000 employees. During this time, she promoted more senior executives year-after-year than any of her colleagues or senior leaders. She was regularly called on to support struggling senior executives and would regularly be part of the interview process with company VPs and EVPs. She was called on to train at the corporate level where she led leadership training programs for as many as 25,000 executives and team leads.
Today, Colleen still works with corporate executives but is also the founder and guiding principal of Small Business USA (SmallBusinessUS.com and EmploymentTutors.com.) She currently supports leadership training, career readiness, and interview training for CUNY, ReelWorks, Ghetto Film School and the cities of NY and LA. You’re in your mid-life years and you’re feeling pretty good about the direction your career has gone. After all, you get good performance reviews, a modest annual merit increase, and maybe even a good year-end bonus or solid commission. Then you get an unexpected call to your supervisor’s office. Sitting and waiting for you is the HR director. Suddenly, after years of loyal service, you find yourself unceremoniously let go by your company.

What do you do now? It’s not easy, but you can survive and thrive!

Ken has experienced this very painful and personal life event first-hand. He will present his personal experience and how he went from despair and fear to finding a position and developing a lifestyle even better than the one he had before.

The reality is that separations from companies happen, but you can navigate through this stressful time and get you where you truly want to be.

Presentation: “LinkedIn and Networking” 

Discussion on using LinkedIn to network in 2021 based on the latest changes and thinking of other LinkedIn subject matter experts. I’ll also be discussing how LinkedIn now integrates with Clubhouse – the latest social media platform.  My presentation will include participating in an actual Clubhouse event as well as demonstrating the latest LinkedIn changes.  If we have enough group members on Clubhouse, we can create a room and show TBC how this tool can be used.

Presentation: How to “Keep Pace” in a Post-COVID World – Preparing for Disrupted Ecosystems and the “New Normal”

What if you had a “Disruption RoadMap” that told you:
The life disruptions you were going to encounter
When those disruptions were going to happen
And more importantly – what you needed to do to prepare.  

But as we saw during 2020, no such Roadmap exists.   And while it may have seemed COVID-19 was a singular disruption; it was  in reality, a cascading sequence of disruptions that included:
Social Distancing / Contactless Services
Economic Shutdowns / Company Bankruptcies
Supply Chain Disruptions
Increased Automation / Increased e-Commerce
Work From Home / Remote Networking

Another thing that may not have been obvious, is that Newton’s third law (“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”) was in full effect.   Just consider the following  reactions to the above disruptions – and how those reactions are changing a range of behaviors :
Companies that invested in ”Work From Home” Infrastructures, Automation and/or “Touchless”  technologies
Employee’s whose attitudes have changed regarding “Work from Home” and where they live
Consumer behaviors that have embraced online experiences and conveniences – which will be hard to take away

And for good measure, if you thought technology was moving quickly prior to COVID-19 – as the old saying goes – “you ain’t seen nuthin yet”.

So is it any wonder people are curious as to what the “Future of Work” in a post-COVID world is going to look like – and more importantly – asking what they can do to “Keep Pace” in a VERY disruptive world?

Abstract
While many of us may not think this way, each of us is a brand. Our past experience, passions outside of work, education, community involvement, family, background and our social media channels all comprise our personal brand. As we evolve throughout our career, our brand evolves. As we seek our next job opportunity, we must understand and acknowledge that we are the chief marketing officer of our personal brand. No matter our career focus – accounting, information technology or human resources – if we are actively seeking our next job, we must think and act like a chief marketer each and every day of our job search.

Mark Beal is a 30-year marketing veteran, having developed and executed integrated marketing campaigns for leading companies and brands around such major sports and entertainment platforms as the Olympic Games, Super Bowl and The Rolling Stones. Mark is a professor of public relations at Rutgers University.. He focuses much of his time helping job seekers of all ages ranging from college students to senior executives develop and market their personal brand to strengthen their strategic prospecting approach to securing their next job. Mark is the co-author of Career In Transition: 101 Lessons To Achieve Job Search Success.

Presentation: “Money Saving Strategies during a Career Transition: Health Insurance, Taxes, College Costs, and Investment Fees”

This presentation will cover a number of strategies to consider to help with cash flow during a career transition.  The focus will be on those strategies that may not be well known or understood.  Topics will include:  Medical Insurance through the Affordable Care Act,  tax implications of 401k/403b rollovers and withdrawals, tax deductibility of job hunting expenses and strategies to take advantage of shifting marginal tax rates during a transition

Bill LaChance is an independent financial advisor based in Chatham NJ.  Bill offers a unique flat fee program and focuses his practice those going through or contemplating a career transition. Prior to launching his financial planning practice, Bill spent twenty two years in corporate finance in the retail industry and before that was a CPA with a large accounting firm.  Bill has a B.S. in Accounting from Bryant University, an MBA in Finance from Indiana University and completed the Financial Planning Certificate program at Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Bill is also an Enrolled Agent authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS and also provides tax consulting and preparation services.

4)    Each situation is unique and subject to negotiation with yourself and the perspective offer.
